Everything You Need to Know for Your Upcoming Cake Smash Session

 

 

 

Thanks so much for booking your session - I can’t wait to capture some beautiful memories with your one year old! Below you’ll find all the details to help you feel prepared and relaxed on the day.

 

 

The meeting spot


The sessions will take place at Long Bay Reserve. Depending which entrance you come in from, you want to go to the north end of the park. So if you come in to the park from Glenvar Ridge Road entrance, turn left at the first roundabout. If you come in from the Beach Road entrance, just keep driving straight until the road ends. This is where you will park, marked with a red circle. It is where the road ends and a tree lined path starts.



I should be easy to spot waiting on the grass bank, but if you have any issues on the day you can give me a call on 0211400480.

What to wear

The Session can get messy! So pack some baby wipes and a change of clothes for the drive home. (I have back up wipes if needed)


I will provide the backdrop props - teepee, cushions, cake, cake stand, cake topper, bunting, and blankets.


If you would like me to bring something for your child to wear, just let me know - you can find my client wardrobe on the website.


 

What to bring

 

I recommend dressing your little one in clothes they are comfortable in. Colour wise - natural, earthy tones, or bold colours that complement the backdrop work well - think soft blues, olives, rusts, and muted greens. Try to avoid bold patterns or large logos, as they can be distracting and draw attention away from the face.

Family Photos

 

I offer the option to start with a quick, five-minute family portrait to capture everyone together, then we’ll dive straight into the cake smash so your little one stays happy, engaged, and full of fun.

FAQ

What happens if the weather is bad?

Auckland weather can be unpredictable, so I keep a close eye on the forecast. If rain is predicted for your session, I’ll get in touch 24 hours beforehand to talk through the best options.

Because the weather often changes quickly here, forecasts are rarely accurate earlier than that.

If we do get rain, we can usually choose from a few easy alternatives:

  • Passing showers: We can adjust the shoot time to work around the rain.
  • Heavy rain: We can postpone to the next day.
  • Prefer to stay dry? We can move your session into the studio instead.

Either way, I’ll reach out and guide you through the best plan, so you don’t need to worry about a thing

What if we are sick?

Please get in touch as early as possible if anyone in your family becomes unwell. Because the baker needs time to bake, cool, and decorate your cake, I’m not always able to stop the order if notice is too short. The good news is that cakes freeze beautifully, and many clients who have fallen ill last-minute have simply used their cake at the rescheduled session.

If you have an inkling a few days beforehand that you might not be well enough to attend, please let me know right away. This gives me the best chance of checking with the baker to see if the order can be delayed.


How long does it take to get our photos?

I know families are excited to see their photos, so I aim to have the viewing gallery emailed to you within one week. If you are having the session pre birthday, and would like the images back in time to share on their actual birthday please let me know.
