Everything You Need to Know for Your Upcoming Newborn Session

Congratulations on your new baby! Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph your new tiny human.

As you are already aware, my style is natural with lots of neutral tones. If you have your session coming up, please read through my tips below.

The Studio

My cosy home studio is designed for newborn, maternity and milestone sessions, and is located at the front of my house with separate access, so it's nice and private.

When you arrive at the studio, you can park on the drive way or on the road, and head to the top of the driveway you will see the entrance in to my studio on your left.

When you arrive with your baby, if they are asleep keep him/her in their baby seat so not to disturb. There's no need to get out your pram, just bring the car seat and a bag with your essentials in.

I am a mum and 100% understand it's hard to work out timings when leaving the house, so if you are running behind on the day just keep me up to date via text on 0211400480.

Tips for your session

Sessions are baby-led and relaxed

There’s no rush - we take breaks whenever needed to settle, feed, change, or soothe your baby. Baby-only sessions usually take around 1 hour, while full newborn sessions (including family) are closer to 2 hours.

Breastfeeding?

If you’re wearing your own clothes or have booked a baby-only session, wear something easy to slip off to feed. If you're being photographed, you’re welcome to choose a postnatal-friendly gown from my client wardrobe, or wear your own neutral-toned outfit that suits the studio setting.

What to wear

I recommend wearing natural or earthy tones that complement the studio and my editing style — think whites, creams, soft blues, olives, rusts, and muted greens.

Most importantly, choose something you feel comfortable in and that feels like you. Try to avoid bold patterns or large logos, as they can be distracting and draw attention away from the connection and emotion in your photos.

My client wardrobe is available for every session and includes a selection of beautiful dresses for Mamas. You can view the range on my website.

Tip - Don’t forget to remove watches for those close-up baby hands shots.

Siblings (Full Session Only)

If siblings are joining, we’ll start with family and sibling photos first. After that, they can relax, explore the garden, or head out with Dad to the local Long Bay playground, beach, or Awaruku Reserve behind my studio — perfect for keeping them entertained while we focus on baby.

For your Session

Top Tips

• Feed before or on arrival to the studio

A full tummy helps baby settle into sleep. You’re welcome to feed as soon as you arrive. And don’t worry if your little one feeds more than usual - comfort feeding is totally normal during the session.

• Outfits are provided

I’ve got a beautiful range of wraps and knitted outfits in the studio - no need to bring anything unless there’s a special outfit you’d like to include.

• Bring a dummy if using one

• Dress for a warm studio

My studio is heated to keep baby sleepy and cozy - it can feel warm for adults, so dress in light layers.

• Bring extras

Pack spare nappies, water bottles, and snacks (non-sticky ones) if you're bringing older children. Most of the session is spent settling your baby for those sleepy, curled-up shots.
